‘My Life as a Whore’ Presentation Packs the House

The book title is ‘My Life as a Whore, the Biography of Laura Evens’, by ex-Salidan Tracy Beach.

The location was perfect for author Tracy Beach’s presentation and book signing, since, circa 1900-1950, the Shrine Club housed Madam Laura Even’s bordello. Laura Evens is Salida’s most famous, and infamous, madam.

Ms. Beach first gave an animated presentation about life in the bordello using a set to recreate the parlor and a bedroom.

Due to the hazards of their occupation, many of the ‘girls’ could not bear children, so they collected dolls.

Then author Beach treated the audience to an intriguing slide show presentation. The book signing followed.

I purchased a copy of “My Life as a Whore” and look forward to reading it. It’s history, and I suspect it will be a good read.
