2018 Christmas Letter

Greetings!

Thought I’d write a quick note…

During 2018 three things happened to me that stand out.

First, I went to my 50th high school reunion (Walt Whitman High School, Bethesda MD) This was the first reunion I had been to, since I moved away after high school.  I have to say I was extremely nervous about going, since I hadn’t seen these people for 50 years.  Fortunately, I had a fantastic time. Everyone recognized me!  A lot of laughter and reminiscing. I grew up with an East Coast sense of humor, and it was fun to be surrounded by those who share it.

Second, I decided to move back to Pagosa Springs from Salida.  I rented my place in Salida for the winter, and will figure out what to with it next year.  Salida is a very cool town to live in, but it is exploding in growth and quickly losing the small town feel. I feel more at home in Pagosa, and am enjoying my life here more than my life in Salida.  I’m still writing for various and sundry entities here, and various causes.

Third, I adopted a Chihuahua from the local humane society.  What was I thinking?  I didn’t mean to.  I’m not a Chihuahua person.   But I felt sorry for her.  Her name is Apple Butter, although my nickname for her is PITA (pain in the a__).

Apple Butter is sweet, spirited, demanding, and at times yappy.  The exact opposite of my lab mix Bodie.  Chihuahuas love to be warm, and surely don’t belong in the mountains with temperatures in the teens.  But here she is in my house.  Long-term prognosis is uncertain.  She is a cutie, and is much better off with me than in the shelter.

All in all, it’s been a good year for me, and I hope the same holds true for you and yours.
